Sierra CCW conducts indoor classrooms at different locations in Truckee, depending on the time of year. Firearm qualifications are included with each CCW class, and are held at outdoor firing ranges near Boca Dam or Hobart Mill, in Truckee. Ranges are subject to unannounced closure by the US Forest Service because of fire danger, high winds, mud, or winter snow cover. Therefor, qualification may not be available during scheduled classes, and may need to be rescheduled to alternate dates.
Certificates of Completion are awarded to those applicants who successfully complete all course-work, including attending the full requisite number of hours mandated by the State of California, and pass a written exam, and who successfully pass the live-fire qualification. Sierra CCW does NOT guaranty applicants will receive a Certificate of Completion just by attending class.
Applicants attending CCW classes at Sierra CCW must already be familiar with safe firearm handling, reloading, unloading, making safe, and clearing jams. The instructors have no discretion as to who qualifies and who does not (other than disqualification - see below). Applicants pass qualification if they meet the guidelines published on their issuing agency's websites. Those qualifying with semi-automatic firearms should always expect malfunctions, and able to clear those malfunctions. Certain issuing agencies will not approve firearms for concealed carry if their projectiles exceed specific energy (caliber) limits. Check with your issuing agency for their limitations. Due to liability considerations, Sierra CCW generally will not qualify any individual with a firearm that fires projectiles which exceed the typical energy of a .45 cal. round.
Any applicant attending Sierra CCW classes will be immediately disqualified, and will NOT receive a Certificate of Completion, if the applicant, at any time or anywhere, including at the firing range, points their firearm at any other person, no matter how briefly, or points their firearm at any personal property that can be damaged, whether their finger is on the trigger or not, or handles their firearm in a careless or dangerous manner. No refunds of class fees will be issued for applicants so disqualified.
Sierra CCW can accept payment of class fees by cash, check, or electronic funds transfers. Payment shall be made before the start of class. Refunds for pre-paid classes can be arranged for cancellations with a minimum three days notice to Sierra CCW. No refunds will be issued for no-shows, applicants who do not finish their classes, to applicants who are disqualified, or who are asked by the instructor to leave class because of unsafe or inappropriate conduct.
